There are 2 types of people in this world…

People who see something they want and say “How can I get someone to do/make/buy that for me?”

and those who say “How can I do/create/earn that for myself?”

People who identify themselves by every bad thing that has happened to them

and those who identify themselves by the good things they have experienced.

People who resent how they were treated in the past, yet repeat the very same behavior in their own life

and those who learn from their experiences and do the exact opposite when given the chance.

People who hide a chaotic life behind a screen of perfection

and those thow

People who spend the majority of a conversation speaking or interrupting

and those who spend most of their discussion time listening.

Which one are you?

Ringmaster

It’s Show Time

the Ringmaster enters

royal and poised.

Prepare to see amazing sights!

A spectacular spectacle of wonder awaits your hungry eyes.

Clowns taunting, exploiting every fear

fruitlessly waving his arms, high upon his platform

perched on toes stretched long

projecting, shouting, screaming–

alas,

no one can see,

nor hear,

the Ringmaster.

A Progressive Vote supports the enlightenment of human society (Reasons to Vote Blue 2020 – Part 5)

It’s election day, and I’ll be wrapping up this series with the #1 reason why I vote a progressive ticket–because “progressivism” is the collective movement of humans coming together to fight for an inclusive and equitable society.

It is the right thing to do for the bigger picture–for our future, for our children’s future, and the best thing for the lives of all citizens of this world.

As I discuss in the video, this quote from Thomas Jefferson is such a great argument for progressivism in government:

“Laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths disclosed, and manners and opinions change with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also, and keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy, as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors.”

Let’s re-prioritize respecting science, logic, and common sense (Reasons to Vote Blue 2020 – Part 2)

Sometimes I can’t even believe that this country has gotten to such a state that I even feel compelled to talk about how truth, facts, science, research, logic, and common sense is a good thing.

What a depressing state this country is in where such a large portion of the population fight to ignore facts, undermine science, & compromise school curricula.

Vote Blue because we need a president and other government officials who are OK with admitting that they don’t know everything and aren’t afraid to look to the experts.

Decisions should be made on facts–not on whether a decision will pander to their base or not.

Oh, Frak! Fraking and the inevitable phasing out of fossil fuels (Reasons to Vote Blue 2020)

With the election right around the corner I have been bursting to speak on a number of different topics.

I’ve decided that I’m just gonna get it done, starting with this one.

Be ready for a mostly-political Well-Rounded Ryan over the next few weeks.

TODAY? Fraking and the inevitable phasing out of fossil fuels.

What my ex-inlaws & OJ Simpson’s family/the Kardashian’s have in common

Unexpected life lessons…

Back in 2016, I watched the American Crime Story “The People v. O.J. Simpson.” It had the weird effect of helping me to come to terms with some struggles surrounding how poorly ex-inlaws handled the situation regarding my ex’s abuse against our daughter. I’ve been wanting to talk it out like this even since, but never brought myself to do it until now.
